H. Pylori

H. pylori is a bacteria in the intestines that has been known to cause various gastrointestinal problems. It is responsible for over 80% of all stomach ulcers and is associated with high risks of gastric cancer. Almost 50% of patients have the bacteria in their bodies, even if they may not know it.

H. pylori is associated with symptoms from gastritis or peptic ulcer disease. They include abdominal pain and the symptoms can heighten in severity when patients have gone too long without eating. Although many patients have H. pylori, the symptoms may never appear at all. Patients who have a family history of the bacteria have a higher chance of being infected.

Hydrogen Breath Test

A hydrogen breath test is an in-office procedure that diagnoses patients with irritable bowel syndrome and certain food intolerances. The breath test can be used to determine lactose intolerance, fructose intolerance, and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.

Lactose Breath Test

A lactose breath test is performed in-office and is completed within 5 minutes. It serves to identify whether patients are able to digest lactose, which can cause bloating, gas, and diarrhea in those who are tolerant. It is important to identify whether you may be dairy intolerant, because removing these food groups from your diet can lead to nutritional deficiencies.

Fructose Breath Test

The fructose breath test is performed in office and can be completed in only 5 minutes. The purpose is to determine whether the patient can digest fructose, an ingredient found in the sugar of various fruits, honey, and vegetables. Fructose malabsorption symptoms can include cramping, excess gas, bloating, and diarrhea.

Lactulose Breath Test

The lactulose breath test is a 3 hour in-office procedure that detects SIBO, or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. The condition involves having an excessive number of bacteria in the small intestine, resulting in bloating, diarrhea, gas, vomiting, malabsorption, and other gastrointestinal problems.

Sucrose Breath Test

The sucrose breath test is a noninvasive test that measures the digestive and absorptive capacity of the small intestine and possibly diagnose any GI conditions associated with sucrase deficiency. For patients concerned about Sucrase-Isomaltase Deficiency (CSID), this test is a good way to diagnose gastrointestinal disorders and form a pre-emptive treatment plan.
