Video Capsule Endoscopy
BOOK APPOINTMENTHow Capsule endoscopy works?
Capsule endoscopy uses a small wireless camera to capture images of the digestive tract. The camera is contained in a vitamin-sized capsule that is swallowed. The capsule travels through your digestive tract while the camera takes thousands of pictures.
The pictures are transmitted to a recorder that is worn on a belt around your waist or over the shoulder. Capsule endoscopy is essential to helping doctors view the inside of the small intestine because the area is difficult to reach with traditional endoscopy.
Procedure
The procedure is available for both adults and children. Any patient that can swallow the capsule is a candidate for the procedure. The process will begin and be completed generally in the doctor’s office.
